Located 8 miles Northeast of Cooke City, the Mt Zimmer Yurt is a 20′ hut located at an elevation of 9500′ next to Companion Lake near the Zimmer Creek Wilderness Boundary. This area is notorious for having copious amounts of POWDER and provides easy access to the heart of the Beartooth Mountains. Day trips from the Yurt include skiing trees and pillow lines right out the front door. Longer ski touring options include peaks such as Mt Zimmer, Mt Wilse, Glacier Peak and the mountains surrounding Goose Lake including Sawtooth, Wolf and Fox Peaks. The Mt Zimmer Yurt is available for nightly rentals from December 1 to the end of April.
The yurt amenities include:

Access to the Yurt
The Mount Zimmer Yurt is accessible by snowmobile. Beartooth Powder Guides can provide a snowmobile shuttle service at an additional cost to get you and your gear to the Yurt. See Pricing tab for details.
Private Rental – Whole Yurt
Reserve the Yurt for your entire group which can sleep as many as 6 people. (see calendar below for availability)
Cost is $400 per night. (See Policies)
First Time Hut User Orientation
This is required for any group who has not previously been to the Yurt, so your group can be oriented with cabin procedures and policies.
Cost is $250 per group (Price includes taking the group leader and towing a large toboggan full of gear or 3 guests to the Yurt)
Transportation to Yurt
Beartooth Powder Guides offers transportation to the Yurt for those that do not have their own snowmobiles.
Typical 6 person group and a toboggan full of gear (3 trips) = $450 (or $500 with first time user orientation)

Guiding Services
Route finding in the Mount Zimmer Yurt area can be tricky. To maximize your skiing time while staying at the yurt and reduce the amount of time you spend route finding, hire a Beartooth Powder Guide to show you around the first day of your stay.
Fully Guided Trips with guiding, lodging and transportation included are $310 a person per day for a group of 4 or 6
Ski Guiding Rates
- Full Day Guiding for 1 Person $560 Total
- Full Day Guiding for 2 People $335 each or $670 Total
- Full Day Guiding for 3 People $240 each or $720 Total
- Full Day Guiding for 4 People $195 each or $780 Total
*To book a guide, a $200 per day per guide deposit is required
** The use of snowmobiles to reach terrain to the north of Cooke City will increase the daily guide rate by $65-165 depending on distance traveled and how many snowmobiles used.
** Groups Larger than 4 people will require a second guide at same applicable rates
***Price doesn’t include guide gratuities. We are often asked about gratuities for guides. Traditionally, skiers who enjoyed their experience and appreciated his or her work have found it appropriate to tip.

Cancellation Policy
Deposits/payments are non refundable. If your reservation or your position in the class can be filled, a refund will be issued minus an $80 administrative fee. Alternatively, if we fill your position in the class or are able to re-book your reservation, you can receive a 100% credit toward future course enrollment, guiding or lodging fees. Please protect your investment and purchase travel insurance at the following links;
- First time visitors to the Mt. Zimmer Yurt will be required to hire Beartooth Powder Guides for the “First Time Hut User Orientation.”
- Users are required to have a Group Leader. The Group Leader is required to have completed a minimum Level 1 Avalanche Course and also have taken a basic First Aid Course.
- A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your reservation for all Beartooth Powder Guides reservations. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the start of the activity. Trips departing within 30 days from the reservation date must be paid in full at the time of reservation.
- Deposits are non refundable, unless the Yurt can be re-booked for the cancelled days or your position in the class can be filled. A $80 administrative fee will be assessed to all refunds.
- Payments may be made via MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Discover, cash or check
- Sorry, no dogs.
- A 4% Cooke City/Park County “resort” tax is applied to all trips.
- A 8% Montana State Accommodations Tax is applied to the Yurt.
